Ruth Alice Holder

A memorial service for Ruth Alice Holder, 81, of Lake Kiowa, is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Temple Baptist Church in Gainesville, TX.  A dessert reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall following the service.

Ruth Alice was born February 14, 1937 in Ardmore, OK to Roy Watson and Theo (Henderson) Watson.  She went to be with her Savior on January 27, 2019.

Survivors include: husband of 60 years, Dan Holder of Lake Kiowa; daughter Sonia Markle of Lake Kiowa; son Randall Holder and his wife Ramona of Flower Mound; and five grandchildren.  Ruth is also survived by her sister, Blanche Smith, of Ardmore, OK.

Mrs. Holder was preceded in death by: her parents; brother Waylon Watson; and son-in-law Bruce Markle.

Ruth was a graduate of Dickson schools (Oklahoma), Southeastern University, and received a Masters of Education from Texas Women’s University.  She taught in the Ardmore ISD (Oklahoma), Plainview ISD (Oklahoma), and for twenty years in the Lewisville ISD (Texas).  She was a life member of: Oklahoma Education Association; Texas PTA, Association of Texas Educators, and was selected as Teacher of the Year when she taught at College Street Elementary (Lewisville ISD).

Ruth always enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt, fish, and work in the garden with her dad.  She and Dan were best friends and continued her loved for fishing and gardening, and add RVing.  Together they RV’ed to all 49 North American states, Old Mexico, and several provinces of Canada.  The trip she enjoyed most was going to Israel - sitting on the steps of the Temple where Jesus had taught, riding on a replica of a fishing boat on the Sea of Galilee, and being re-baptized in the Jordan River.  Ruth was a wonderful example of a Christian woman.

Ruth and Dan moved to Lake Kiowa in 1990 and she soon added golf to one of her many outdoor activities.  She loved a pretty yard and spent hours caring for it.  She was proud of her children and grandchildren and often expressed her gratitude that they loved so close.  Ruth had a remarkable talent for being a great listener.  She even listened to her husband tell his jokes over and over!
