Sandra Jo Nichols

Sandra Jo (McDaniel) Nichols died peacefully on June 28, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 82.

Sandra (Sandy) was born to Rad and Anita (Hafford) McDaniel on April 17, 1941.  She graduated from Gainesville High School.   She married Joseph Y. Nichols, the love of her life, in 1960.   Joe and Sandra were married over 56 years, until he passed away in 2016.  In 1962, she graduated from North Texas State University where she earned a degree in Education.  Sandra’s elementary teaching career, of over 34 years, took her to many schools throughout the United States and overseas as she relocated for her husband’s career.  She retired from Rad Ware Elementary School in Callisburg, Texas.  Joe and Sandra were longtime members of Temple Baptist Church in Gainesville, Texas.

Sandy loved to play the piano, and did so for her retirement home, until just over a couple of years ago.  Hymns and Christmas songs were her favorite.  She loved attending Bible study and discussing scripture with family and friends.  Her love was for Joe and her faith.  During her last hours, she stated she wasn’t scared and ready to see Joe.

Sandra is survived by her son, Grant Michael Nichols of McKinney, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Steve and Nancy Shiller of Galveston, Texas; granddaughter Stephanie Evans of Tampa, Florida; two brothers Bobby McDaniel and Jerry and Carla Jo McDaniel; favorite cousin Barbara and Wallace Inglish; and many nieces, a nephew, and other family members.

Sandra Nichols is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Joe Y. Nichols.

A memorial service will be held graveside at Oak Grove Cemetery on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 10:00am.  Dr. Eddie Chennault will officiate the ceremony.  Arrangements are under the care of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
