Sandy Currie

July 14, 1938 — December 2, 2018

A memorial service for Sandra Brown Currie, 80, of Gainesville, is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville with Rev. John Hare officiating.  Arrangements are under the care of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Mrs. Currie passed away December 2, 2018 in Gainesville.

Sandy was born July 14, 1938 in Forest Hills, NY to Harold and Marguerite Brown.  She was raised in Forest Hills and graduated college from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY.  She raised her family in Cocoa Beach, FL and Corpus Christi, TX.  Mrs. Currie moved to Gainesville in 1980 when her husband Merle was promoted to Post Master.  She was very involved in numerous community organizations, including Friends of the Library, Frank Buck Zoological Society, and Salvation Army.  Sandy was also a devoted and involved member of First Presbyterian Church.  She enjoyed knitting, gardening, playing tennis, and swimming.

Survivors include: husband Merle Currie of Gainesville; son Robert Oswald of Thackerville; son Peter Oswald of Gainesville; grandchildren: Sara, Hannah, and Molly; four great-grandchildren; sister Ellin Foote of Wilmington, DE; sister Nancy Burton of Los Altos, CA; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mrs. Currie was preceded in death by: her parents; sister Peggy Brown; and husband Robert G. Oswald.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Friends of the Library; Frank Buck Zoological Society; and First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville.
