Sherrill "Frank" Franklin Maynard Ii

August 2, 1939 — January 6, 2025

A funeral service for Sherrill Franklin “Frank” Maynard II, 85, of Gainesville is scheduled for 2:00 PM Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Lumpkin officiating.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Mr. Maynard passed away on January 6, 2025 in Gainesville.  He was born August 2, 1939 in Lenoir, NC to Sherrill Franklin and Lucy Dawn (Martin) Maynard.

Frank graduated high school in Lenoir and attended college at University of North Carolina and Appalachian State.

Mr. Maynard joined the US Air Force in 1959 where he served our country working with the Secret Service intercepting Morse Code messages.

After honorably serving his country for four years, Frank earned his Master’s of Theology from West Monroe, LA and performed mission work while attending school.  He also took classes from Abilene Christian later in life.

Mr. Maynard worked for many years in Lenoir as a manager in furniture manufacturing.  After completing mission work in Argentina, he became a full-time Church of Christ Minister and teacher.  Upon moving to Gainesville, him and a partner opened TrendTex Furniture Manufacturer Company. Years later continued working at various well-known furniture stores within the North Texas area, while preaching and teaching the word of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Frank is survived by his wife of 40 years, Janiece Alene Sims, married in Thackerville, OK on February 13, 1985.  He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law Michele Dawn Maynard MacArthur and Stephen Cook of Plano; daughter and son-in-law Amelia “Amy” Maynard Segobia and Demetrius “DJ” Segobia of Bonney Lake, WA; son and daughter-in-law Rodney and Laura White of Gainesville; daughter-in-love Lisa Pullis of Stateside, NC; grandchildren:  Zach White, Victoria Dawn “Tori” MacArthur; Gracie Maynard Warren and husband Andrew, Grayson Franklin Maynard, Moses Segobia, Leondre “Leo” Segobia, Zeus Franklin Segobia, Justin Simmons, Hunter Chambers, Tanner Chambers.  He is also survived by great-grandchild Walker Warren, nephew Brian Blanton, and sister-in-law Judy Blanton.

Mr. Maynard was preceded in death by his parents; son Sherrill Franklin “Frankie” Maynard III; brother Thomas Martin Maynard; sister Mary Victor Maynard.

Frank, Daddy (Deedy), or La La as he was known to many neighborhood children and his grandchildren, will be greatly missed by all who knew him.  He deeply loved to serve the Lord and would teach the Gospel to anyone with which he could spend time.  His love for his wife, family, and God was unbreakable.
