Shirley Faye Magers McKee was born on September 20, 1945 to Weldon and Kathleen Magers at the Gainesville Sanitarium in Gainesville, TX. It was a glorious day on May 20, 2023 when angels escorted her to paradise after a short illness.
Shirley attended Gainesville public schools. She married Marshall Kent McKee on December 8, 1962 and was married over 53 years until his death on February 29, 2016. They were blessed with two children Kenni Lynne Hamilton (Jerry) and Marshall Todd McKee (Gina), four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Shirley was known by Grammy and very much loved and adored by her family.
After living in Dallas and Arlington, Kent and Shirley moved back to Cooke County in 1970 and built a house on the Smith homestead in Woodbine. She and Kent were extremely hospitable with sharing their home and large yard for family holidays and gatherings of friends.
Shirley retired from the U.S. Post Office in 2008. She was a rural mail carrier and loved by her fellow workers and her customers. She was active in Callisburg Church of Christ; Gainesville Memorial Hospital as a volunteer until Covid; Grief Recovery Group where she made close lasting friendships; several social groups and a good friend to anyone she met. She could talk and ask many questions. We think that is why she was so loved - she genuinely cared about everyone. She moved from Gainesville to Corinth to be with her children in November 2022.
Her survivors are children Kenni and Jerry Hamilton and Todd and Gina McKee; her grandchildren Collin Bautista Cade Hamilton, Caroline McKee Johnson (Josh) and Blair McGill (Zac); her great grandchildren Jorgia Reese and Marshall Graham Johnson, Addisyn Paige and Tymber Grace McGill; her brother and sisters Brent Magers (Jennifer), Saundra Magers Westfall (Jimmy) and Billie Magers Miller (Dave); many nieces and nephews and several cousins who all loved her very much.
She will be missed immensely. She was the life of the party. She will always be our beautiful blue-eyed Shirley.
