Shirley Wooldridge

March 12, 1930 — February 6, 2022

Shirley Mae Wooldridge, 91, of Gainesville, Texas passed away February 6, 2022.

Shirley was the ninth child born to Rufus Alexander Williams and Bertha Belle (Roller) Williams on March 12, 1930, in Childress County, Texas near the small farming community of Loco.  She graduated Wellington High School in May 1949.  Then, on June 12, 1949 married the love of her life, Leslie Ray Wooldridge.  They enjoyed life together for 41 years.

Shirley was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great grandmother.  But she would not be Shirley without the countless friends she lifted up, supported, and genuinely loved.  She was an example to all in her faith in God, her positive attitude, her fighting spirit, and her love of life.

She helped support her family as a secretary and a realtor.  But her true passion was in retail sales.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gainesville.  She loved to volunteer.  She volunteered with the United Methodist Women, Lake Kiowa Women’s Club, Home Hospice, and Butterfield Theater.  As a survivor of breast cancer, she was volunteer for the American Cancer Society.  Shirley became a certified Reach for Recovery volunteer as strong advocate and mentor for other women fighting the same battle.  Shirley was Life-Time Member of the Hospital Auxiliary for North Texas Medical Center after clocking 5,965 hours and serving almost 24 years.  A major part of her time was as the gift store manager.

Shirley was survived by her son and daughter in law, Kent and Marilyn Wooldridge of Gainesville, daughter and son in law, Nancy and Jack Fisher of Fort Worth, grandchildren Amy and Peter Camp of Portland, Maine and Joanne and Jay Jeter of Denton, Texas, and great grandchild Leslie Kate Jeter.  She is also survived by her sister Mary Snyder of Albuquerque, New Mexico and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley’s parents, seven of her siblings, and her husband preceded her in death.

A celebration of life for Shirley will be Friday, February 11, 2022 at 1:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, Gainesville, Texas.

To honor Shirley please send donations to First United Methodist Church Gainesville, North Texas Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary, VISTO, or the charity of your choice.
