TERRY CLAYTON SAWYER, 80, of Gainesville, Texas passed away April 26, 2024 at his home in Gainesville, Texas , surrounded by loved ones. He was born on July 20, 1943 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Cecil and Dorothy (Koontz) Sawyer. He was married to Laurie Wilson Sawyer and was the father of Curt Sawyer and his wife Kris Sawyer and their children Clay, McKenna, Drew and David Sawyer and his wife Katie Sawyer and their children Anna, Maddy & Jackson and his step daughter Elizabeth. He graduated from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa in 1961. He attended and graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1965.
In 1970 he became a special agent with the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs which later became the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) in 1973. Within the DEA, he was a special agent and later a pilot and retired as the supervisor/special agent of the air wing of DEA in 2000. After his retirement from DEA, he became a volunteer for CASA and also served as the lead investigator for the District Attorney of Cooke County until his final retirement at age 72.
He and Laurie are devoted Christians who attended Denton Bible Church before becoming members of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Gainesville TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Sawyer, Dorothy Sawyer and sister Cecilia Sawyer.
Services are to begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Gainesville, Texas. The family will begin receiving friends at 1:15 p.m. prior to the memorial service.
