Thomas Richard Scott was born in Gainesville, TX on December 29, 1949 to Leonard Frank Scott & Clara Imogene Teague. He died on July 25, 2023 at North Texas Medical Center in Gainesville, TX at the age of 73 years old.
Tommy is preceded in death by his parents, Frank & Imogene, sisters Elaine Winters & Frankie Ellison, & Brother Ira Scott.
Mr. Scott is survived by his wife, Jeannie Scott of the home, daughters & sons-in-law Shelly Capehart of Perry, OK, Robin Kime & husband Jayson of Thackerville, OK, Susanne Norris & husband Scott of Vancouver Canada, Grandchildren Trinity Dewbre, Grady Capehart, Sethan Reed, Abby Capehart, Lyric Kime, Andrew, Phillip, Gideon & Juniper Norris, and great-grand-children Ember Reed-Ramirez & Emmett Dewbre, sisters & brothers-in-law Dolores Milam & husband David, & Martha Smith & husband Mark, Brothers & sisters-in-law Leonard “Dale” Scott & wife Laujuana, Harold Scott & wife Rita, and Gary Scott, aunt Maudene Mason, & numerous nieces, nephews, & friends.
Tommy lived his childhood & young adult years as a resident of Thackerville, OK. He married Sherry Reed-Milam in 1969 before spending 13 months serving in Vietnam. Upon his return they welcomed 3 daughters into the world. He worked primarily in the propane service industry, providing for his family. As life progressed, his marriage to Sherry ended, but their friendship & desire to raise their children well remained.
Mr. Scott married Jeannie Sue Millican in 1987, making their home in Gainesville, TX. They enjoyed 36 years of marriage, loving and caring for one another in the sweetest way. Together, they bought and cared for their property in Thackerville, intending to move there eventually. After his retirement from Peterbilt, Tommy could be seen driving over to “the place” almost daily. Although you would be hard pressed to get him to admit it, he took great care of the herd of semi-feral cats that found their way to Tommy & Jeannie’s land over the years.
Tommy was a war hero, although he would never call himself that. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. He had the humblest of spirits & expected nothing he didn’t work to earn . He loved to spend time with his brothers, laughing and ribbing one another in the way only brothers can, but always having each other’s backs. Tommy’s quick-witted and sometimes self-deprecating sense of humor would leave people in stitches. At other times, he was quiet & slow to speak because he was a deep thinker. He avoided crowds, when he could, yet loved being with the people he loved.
Mr. Scott accepted Jesus and was baptized into the Christian faith as a child. Although faith was something he didn’t speak freely about very often, he had a strong belief in God that guided his choices. His life was filled with examples of the fruit of The Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, & self-control.
Pallbearers are grandsons Grady Capehart & Sethan Reed, sons-in-law Jayson Kime & Scott Norris, grandson-in-law David Dewbre, and friend John Graham.
Honorary Pallbearers are brothers Dale, Harold & Gary Scott, grandsons Andrew, Phillip, & Gideon Norris, & “husband-in-law” (as he fondly called him), Charles Milam.
