Thomas (Tommy) Monroe Smith, Jr., 71, of Era, went to be with the Lord Friday morning December 18, 2020 in Gainesville, TX.
Tommy was born to Thomas (Chuck) Monroe and Essie (McDill) Smith in Gainesville on December 9, 1949. He was an Era High School graduate in 1968.
Mr. Smith married Janet Miller of Era on August 19, 1973. He was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed watching wrestling on Monday nights. He was a retired truck driver for Alan Ritchey Trucking for 28 years, where he earned a 1 Million Mile Award, a 2 Million Mile Award, and Many safety awards for safe driving. Before driving a truck, he worked for dairymen in the area.
Tommy was an amazing dad and husband. He was always involved with his children in their school activities. He loved his family with all that he had. His greatest joy was the birth of his granddaughter Layla this year.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife Janet of 47 years; daughter Amber Smith of Era; daughter and son-in-law Ashley and Will Clark of Nocona; son Joey Smith of Era; grandsons Julian and Christian Clark; granddaughter Layla of Nocona. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Jane and Ronnie Zimmerer; sister and brother-in-law Cheryl and Ronnie Gibbs; brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Betty Smith.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mary Harvill.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the Era Cemetery in Era. No visitation is planned. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the charity of your choice.
