Valerie (Voth) Gantt of Gainesville, Texas. loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter and sister went home to our Lord on March 19, 2018.
Valerie was born June 20, 1951 to Ray and Lucille Voth of Muenster, Texas, the second of eight children. Raised on the family farm, she graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in 1969 and attended Texas Women’s University the following year. In April 1971, she met Douglas Gantt on a blind date at Texas A&M in College Station. They fell in love and married in Sacred Heart Church, Muenster, Texas on May 26, 1973. For the next six years, she supported Doug on his Navy assignments in California and Idaho. Finally, in January 1980, after Doug left the Navy, they settled in West Richland, Washington to raise their family, Sister M. Lucy Gantt, FSGM (Stephanie) and Rebecca. She dedicated herself to her family, ensuring that her daughters were at all of their many activities, swimming lessons, dance classes, singing, and ice skating among others. She enjoyed sewing, completing projects from large crewel stitcheries to a man’s sport coat, a Santa suit and many dresses for the girls and herself. She was also an outstanding cook and baker, and took on cake decorating and candy making. For 32 years, she was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Richland, WA before moving to Gainesville, Texas and becoming a part of the St. Mary Catholic Church family.
Mrs. Gantt was predeceased by her father, Ray Voth. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Gantt of Gainesville; daughters: Sister M. Lucy Gantt, FSGM of Steubenville, OH, and Rebecca (Becky) of Denton; her mother Lucille Voth of Muenster, Texas; sisters: Mona Ford (Stan) of Crowley, Linda Fuhrmann (Mark) of Muenster, Brenda Fuhrmann (Steve) of Lindsay, Sharon Tate (Garland) of Fort Worth, and Jeannene Walterscheid and Randy Haden of Denton; two brothers: Danny Voth (Janet) of Muenster; and Craig Voth (Sharon) of Valley View; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 22 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Friday, March 23 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. John Pacheco officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
