Violet Janet Bishop, 87, of Gainesville, Texas, passed away August 28, 2024 at her home in Gainesville, Texas.
Violet was born on April 4, 1937 in Taylor, Texas to Albert W. Belz and Nona L. Poenitz-Belz. The family moved to Era, Texas when she was 4 years old. She graduated from Era High School with the class of 1956. On June 9, 1956 Violet married her high school sweetheart, Floyd Bishop. Later they were blessed with 2 children, daughter Teresa and son Steve whom they loved very much. Violet was an active member of the Gainesville Seventh-day Adventist Church where she served in many different ways. Violet enjoyed homemaking class during high school and went on to become a seamstress working at a sewing factory in Whitesboro, Texas. She also enjoyed making clothes for herself and her daughter, Teresa. She spent many years working as a caregiver for many people in the community.
Violet is survived by: daughter Teresa Roe of Dallas, Tx., son Steve and wife Laurie Bishop of Gainesville, Tx.; grandchildren: Desiree Collett and Jamie Collett; great-grandchildren: Lacie Collett and Noah Starbuck; sisters: Vernell Argo of Collinsville, Tx., Annie Kirk of Arlington, Tx.; brothers: Herbert Belz of Forney, Tx., Lee Roy Belz of Chico, Tx., Daniel Belz and wife Barbara of Huntsville, Tx., David Belz of Gainesville, Tx., Glenn Belz and wife Debra of Grand Prairie, Tx., Fred Belz and wife Johnette of Arlington, Tx.; sisters-in-law: Margie Bishop of Gun Barrel City, Tx. and Thelma Belz of Arlington, Tx.; brother-in-law Lonnie Bishop and wife Kay of Gainesville, Tx.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Bishop; parents Albert and Nona Belz; father-in-law, Floyd Bishop; mother-in-law, Dorothy Bishop; brother Gideon Belz; brothers-in-law, Bob Argo, Homer Kirk, J.F. Bishop, Wilmer Bishop, J.B. Bishop; sisters-in-law, Dorothey Kear, Gloria Belz, Anna Mae Belz and Eva Belle Bishop; nieces Suzan Lewis, Melanie Belz; and nephews Greg Kirk and Larry Schenk.
The family will receive friends at George J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home on September 7, 2024 from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. Funeral services will be at 3:00pm with Pastor Ed Petreaco officiating. Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery in Valley View, Texas. Serving as pallbearers are: Rick Belz, Philip Belz, Ricky Harrison, Jeffery Bishop, Kenneth Argo, and David Belz, Jr.
