Wanda Fugate Deborde

August 16, 1925 — November 17, 2023

Wanda Fugate DeBorde passed away in Gainesville November 17, 2023 at the age of 98.

Wanda was born in Stringtown, OK to Reuel and Viva Fugate.  She was the 2nd of 6 children.  At the age of 16 she went to the West Coast to work as a welder on the Liberty Ships during WWII.  She was a member of Era Church of Christ and a member of Sanger chapter of Order of the Eastern Star.  She worked 35 years at the Gainesville State School for girls.  She loved being outside and working in her garden.  She was known as “Granny” to all her family.  She had an open-door policy that anybody was welcome at holidays meals.

Mrs. DeBorde was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur DeBorde and her parents; her brothers Don Fugate and wife Alma, Dale Fugate and wife Mary and Ralph Fugate; brothers-in-law Jack Magby and Glen Mitchell; grandson Bryan Michael DeBorde.

Wanda is survived by her sons Bill DeBorde (Cynthia), Jack DeBorde (Loretta); daughters Kay DeBorde, Jo Kirk (Gary), Judy Schmitz (Steve), Jean Hazel (Clegg); sisters Winona Arnett, Baby Doll Magby; sister-in-law Ann Fugate.  She is also survived by her grandchildren Kayla, Rayland, Deanna, Brad, Susan, Garvin, Teal, Deidra, Michelle, Bonnie, Jennifer, Kim, Scott, Ginger, Colt; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; bonus children Neil and Dawn Snider and Cheryl.

Pallbearers are Rayland Thompson, Brad DeBorde, Garvin Kirk, Scott Hazel, Damon Foster, Colt Hazel, Jeff Brown, Jennifer DeGroot.

Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 1:00 PM.  The funeral will begin at 2:00 PM at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Rosston Cemetery.
