Wesley Murphy

November 5, 1958 — July 20, 2023

On Thursday, July 20, 2023, Wesley Murphy, loving husband, father, and poppa, passed away at the age of 64.

Wesley was born on November 05, 1958, to Jimmie (Parish) and Glenn Murphy in Gainesville, TX.  Wesley was an avid outdoorsman.  He loved anything that involved hunting, fishing, or gardening.  Later in his life, he took up making hand tied fly-fishing lures.  Being the overachiever he was, he made hundreds and hundreds of lures.  Wesley was also a talker, never meeting a stranger.  You could often find him cutting up and telling stories with someone he had just met.

Wesley had a deep love for his family and was living proof that you don’t have to share DNA with someone to be their father.  Wesley married his wife and soulmate Rhonda (Gaddie) Murphy, on July 26, 1985, in Marietta, OK.  He immediately inherited 3 little girls and became their daddy.  Wesley took his new role very seriously, teaching his daughters anything he could.  He made countless sacrifices to ensure that they and their mother were taken care of.  He showed them how a husband is supposed to love their wife and how a father is supposed to love their children.

The icing on Wesley’s cake was when he became “Poppa”.  He loved his grandchildren deeply and spent as much time as he could with them attempting to teach them everything that he knew.  He was patient with them and encouraged them to be the very best version of themselves.

Wesley is survived by his wife, Rhonda Murphy of Whitesboro, daughter and wife Crissy and Kristina Edwards, daughter and husband Jenny and Victor deHoyos, daughter and husband Shannon and Johnny Lopez.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Victor deHoyos, Ian deHoyos, Lillie Lopez, and Liam Lopez.  Wesley will be sorely missed by all that knew him.

Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard “Dickie” Murphy, and daughter-in-law Debra Edwards.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the ICU staff at North Texas Medical Center.  Their compassion and love towards the family made a very difficult situation easier.  They provided 5-star care and treated Mr. Murphy as if he were one of their loved ones.  They will never truly know the impact they had on his family.

The family would also like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Minaxi Rathod for her countless years of dedication in caring for Mr. Murphy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Sweeney.  Memorial services are pending for a later date.
