Winford “Winnie” Roy Sherrill, 83, of Gainesville, passed away February 8, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family in Gainesville.
Winnie was born May 19, 1937 in Era Texas to Roy A. Sherrill and Wilma Wilson Sherrill. He grew up in Era, TX. and graduated from Era High School in 1956. He attended Gainesville Junior College. Winnie married June Leonard from Gainesville, July 6, 1959. He worked for Santa Fe/ BNSF Railroad for 40 years.
After retirement, Winnie enjoyed driving cars for local dealerships and doing handyman jobs for the church and yard work for family and friends. He loved spending time outdoors and many of his years on Lake Texoma, always surrounded by family and friends. He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. Winnie was happy to volunteer for various community non-profit organizations through the years.
Winnie was a loving husband and incredibly proud father and grandfather.
He is survived by wife June Sherrill of Gainesville, daughters Dee Dee Mason Of Greenville, Jeanie Argo of Decatur, and Janna Hobbs and her husband Donald of Callisburg. In addition, he is survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles A. Sherrill, sisters Clara Miller and Dorothy DeLara.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Gainesville. Monday, March 1, 2021 at 2:00 PM with J. Melinda Hunt officiating.
In support of our local, state, and CDC directives, and to protect the physical health, safety and well-being of our community, social distancing and the wearing of masks will be observed.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to First Presbyterian Church, 401 S. Denton St. or Stanford House, 401 W. Garnett, Gainesville, Texas 76240.
