Nancy Lee Bier

Funeral services for Nancy Lee Bier, 80, of Lake Kiowa, are set for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Scott Sundbye officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery pavilion under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A visitation will take place one hour before the funeral.


Nancy was born on February 2, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois to Lowel Edward and Ruth Virginia (Dooley) Nichols. She married Carl S. Bier on June 26, 1954 in Brookline, Pennsylvania. She passed away on August 22, 2013 in Gainesville.


Nancy graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School located near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and attended Valparaiso University. As a child she decided to join the Lutheran Church and was the first person in her family to do so. Nancy worked as a secretary, salesperson, and teacher. Her passions were genealogical research and reading. She and her husband Carl lived for many years in Palos Verdes Estates, California. Nancy was the co-founder of the British Isles Family History Society - U.S.A. and served as its president and Irish studies group leader. She led multiple genealogical tours to the British Isles and was highly sought after as a speaker by genealogical organizations across the United States and abroad. After moving to Lake Kiowa in 2006, she founded its genealogy group which is still going strong. Nancy assisted hundreds of people with compiling their family history and was loved by all.



She is survived by her husband Carl of Lake Kiowa; son Richard Bier and his wife Leontine of Flower Mound; granddaughter Tori Bier; and a sister Shirley "Niki" Nichols of Louisville, KY.


She was preceded in death by her parents.
