Billie Bob Phillips (B.B.) of Gainesville, Texas passed on 14-June-2014 to a more perfect life; born 2-November-1927 at Callisburg, Texas to Bertha and Clyde Phillips.
Attended grade-school in Callisburg and graduated Newsome Dougherty Memorial High in Gainesville in 1945.
Billie Bob was a longtime Gainesville merchant, a partner in O’Brien Hardware and Personality Furniture and retired from his Frigidaire business, Phillips Sales, after heart surgery in 1992 at Ohio’s Cleveland Clinic.
Billie Bob was an avid sportsman, fishing and hunting the US, Mexico, and Brazil with his friends; often fishing Lake Texhoma twice a day. While children were young, summer vacations were spent camping in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and taught Jr. High Youth Fellowship and, with other church members, sponsored youth outings on Lake Texhoma for water skiing and charcoaling on the beach.
Past civic roles included Treasurer of Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce and board member of North Lake Club.
Billie Bob and Landi married in the First Presbyterian Church and have lived in the same house all their married life.
Survived by wife Landi, son Mike, daughter Becky Beeman and husband Jimmy, Grandson Joel and wife Rishia and great grandson Ian Phillips, and loving friends Susan & Stewart Smith.
The memorial service “celebration of life” is Saturday, 21-June at 10AM at First Presbyterian Church Gainesville with reception downstairs afterward.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or Noah’s Ark.
