Betty Jo Hargrove

November 9, 1925 — October 11, 2015

Funeral services for Betty Jo (Mathis) Hargrove, 89, of Gainesville, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Patterson officiating. Interment will follow at Hibbit Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service.


Mrs. Hargrove passed away October 11, 2015 in Sherman.


Betty Jo was born November 9, 1925 in Hatchel to Willie Oates and Gena Christine (Nichols) Mathis. She graduated school in Winters, where she had met L.O. “Totsy” Hargrove. The two were married December 30, 1942 in Winters before Totsy deployed for WWII. The family moved to Gainesville in 1967 with Union Texas Petroleum. Mrs. Hargrove worked for Dr. Cole, Dr. Saikin for over 15 years, and in the X-Ray department at Gainesville Memorial Hospital. In her leisure she enjoyed sewing, crafting, painting, cooking, and baking. Mrs. Hargrove grew a large extended family through her kindness and generosity with her open-door policy, as she was always eager to care for others.


Survivors include: husband of 73 years, L.O. “Totsy” Hargrove of Gainesville; daughter, Sheri Criswell and husband, Robert of Paradise; son, Bill Hargrove of Gainesville; daughter, Mary Susan Hargrove of Gainesville; grandson, Lance Criswell and wife, Dana; granddaughter, Gena Glasco and husband, Tony; grandson, Buddy Criswell and wife, Katie; granddaughter, Brittany Arrington; granddaughter, Bailey Gonzales; great-grandchildren: Ethan, Chance, Corbin, Kambel, Kindal, Cooper, and Anna; and sister, Zelda Colburn of Bridgeport.


Serving as pallbearers are: Lance Criswell, Buddy Criswell, Tony Glasco, Scott Colburn, Greg Colburn, and Jimmy Arrington.


Memorial contributions may be made to Hibbit Baptist Church.
