Funeral services for A. F. Cook, affectionately known as “Cook”, 96, of Gainesville, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at New Resthaven Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Mr. Cook passed away March 11, 2016 in Gainesville.
Cook was born on February 20, 1920 in Cement, OK to Ross Waddles and Lena (Baxter) Cook. He spent his childhood between Oklahoma and Missouri. At the age of 17, Cook joined the CC Corps in Purcell, OK, where he met Bettie Faye Johnson; the two were married in 1942. Cook served in the U.S. Army during WWII and saw action in the European Theatre. After the war, Cook and Bettie raised their family in Gainesville. He went to work as a machinist for National Supply in the 1950’s and retired following 25 years of service. During his free time, Cook could often be found fishing.
Survivors include: wife Bettie Faye Cook of Gainesville; son Michael “Mickey” A. Cook and wife Christine of Sanger; daughter Lyndell Irene Cook; grandchildren: Michael, Tracy, and Steven; great-grandchildren: Vivian, Victoria, Preston, Makena, and Harlow; and great-great-grandchildren: Arielle and Piper.
Mr. Cook was preceded in death by several brother and sisters.
