On Monday, 23 August, 2021, Robert “Bob” Henderson, loving father, passed away one day short of 93. He maintained his sense of humor until the end and will be missed.
Bob was born in Corsicana, Texas on August 24, 1928 to Thurman and Clara Henderson. He grew up in east Texas, graduating Valedictorian from Woodhouse High School. His college education was interrupted for 2 years while he served in the US Navy on Guam. After he was discharged, he enrolled in the University of Texas only to be recalled to the Navy serving on the USS Wiseman during the Korean war. Upon discharge he returned to UT and proudly graduated with a Business Degree in Feb 1953.
He went to work for Standard Oil Company of Texas, which became Chevron, the same day he graduated. He married Betty Jean Boley on July 14, 1956 in Callisburg, Texas. Bob and Betty raised a daughter Alison and a son Brett as they followed Bob’s job with Chevron to numerous cities and states over his 32-year career.
After retiring in Littleton, Colorado, Bob and Betty moved back to Callisburg, TX. There he became involved in numerous community activities. Over the years he served as president of the Gainesville Lions Club, president of the Chevron Retirees Association, Callisburg Mayor worked with Betty on Keep Texas Beautiful and was active in the Callisburg United Methodist Church.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty and his brother Morris. He is survived by his children Alison and Brett, daughter-in-law Mona Henderson, 5 granddaughters - Kira, Rachel, Marin, Melissa & Victoria, and 3 great granddaughters – Aria, Lenna, Haddie.
A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Callisburg Cemetery. Mr. Henderson will lie in repose from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, August 27, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home in Gainesville, TX. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society.
