Jimmie Frances Almon, (Sister), 75, of Gainesville, passed away January 21, 2022 in Denton.
“Sister” was born November 5, 1946 in Gainesville, TX. She graduated from Gainesville High School and lived in the Gainesville, Lindsay, and Callisburg areas. Ms. Almon retired from the Gainesville State School as Food Service Director. She always made it a priority to be active and involved in her church. She was involved in Bible Studies, Meals on Wheels, and Nursing Home Ministry. Ms. Almon loved singing in the choir at Temple Baptist and performing in their Easter and Christmas Cantatas. She was most recently a member of The Fold on Grand Ave. Ms. Almon was also part of the leadership team in Celebrate Recovery at Family Life Church. She served as Worthy Matron in The Order of the Eastern Star, mentored by Jess and Bernice Cason and Donna Cason Bass. But Ms. Almon was happiest when cooking and hosting her family and friends, especially for her son’s birthdays.
Survivors include: son, Dr. Russell Lane Almon (Ph.D., Edinburgh) of Bremerton, WA; son, Captain James Monroe Almon, Company Commander, 702nd Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company, and wife, Janlie, of Grafenwoehr, Germany; son, Michael Cason Almon, Quality Assurance Specialist assisting in IT of Wal-Mart Distribution Center, of Gainesville; grandchild, Damaris (Dami) Mikaelia Almon; sister, Jacquie Cason of Florida; sister, Laurette Laster and husband, Greg of Gainesville; sister, Livia Kendrick and husband, Marty of Gainesville; brother, Jack Leaton and wife, Lena of Euless; and brother, Donny Leaton and wife, Lynda of Palestine; Uncle Jess and Aunt Bernice Cason of Gainesville; Aunt Jean Cason of Weatherford; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ms. Almon was preceded in death by: parents, Donna Laura (Cason) Bass and Billie Joe Leaton, Sr.; brother, Jesse Neal Simpson; brother, Billie Joe Leaton, Jr.; sister, Bettye Camp; brother Tommy Leaton; and grandchildren: Jordan Taylor Almon, Micah Jayden Almon, and Noah Avery Almon.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. on January 25, 2022 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, prior to the funeral service beginning at 2:00 P.M. Interment will follow at Callisburg Cemetery.
