Marvin Douglas "Doug" Selby

Marvin Douglas (Doug) Selby, 86, of Gainesville, Tx passed away peacefully October 21, 2019 in Denton, Tx.  Doug was born in Gainesville,Tx on December 5, 1932 to Olin Doyle Selby and Ivy Hudspeth Selby. There will be a memorial service of Doug’s life Friday, October 25, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Gainesville at 2:30 pm with Rev. Brandon McCarroll, Rev. Matthew McCarroll and Dr. Jeff Langley officiating.

Doug grew up in Cooke County and served in the US Army from 1953-1955. He spent his life dedicated to his farming profession in Cooke County. He married Anna Jo (Riley) McCarroll at First Baptist Church in Gainesville on January 19, 1978.  In that process he inherited his two children, Debbie Goode and David McCarroll.

Doug is survived by his wife, Anna Jo, his daughter Debbie Goode and husband Terry of Corinth; his son David McCarroll and wife Melissa of Round Rock; Grandchildren Kelly Jackson, husband Austin and children Cade and Parker of Ponder; Kasey Atterbury, husband Jason and children Grace and Landon of College Station; Brandon McCarroll, wife Hope, and children Melody, Hannah, and Silas of Denton; and Matthew McCarroll of Saginaw; nephews Greg, Michael, and Scott Selby and niece Kathy Selby Brown. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Pat Selby.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, his aunt Daisy Hudspeth, and his brothers Wayne and Kenneth.

Memorial contributions may be made to Home Hospice Care of Cooke County or First Baptist Church of Gainesville.

The family would like to thank UT Southwestern Medical Center and the ICU team at Medical City Denton for their excellent and compassionate care.
